Book Drive Continues through January

Regular readers know that we are strong supporters of the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce and its Leadership Academy. Anna Coates is part of this year’s class of leaders from the DeKalb/Sycamore community.  Each year, students propose achievable projects to serve the community, with the class voting on three projects to be pursued.

Out of 23 potential projects, Anna’s proposal, the Friends of Literacy was one of three chosen! Co-founder Anna explains that Friends of Literacy (FOL) is a program that provides books to local families.  This project will be collecting books and distributing them to children and adults through a Little Free Library at the Barb Food Mart (a local food pantry located in Huntley Middle School).  FOL will also be sharing information about the importance of literacy and reading as a family, and talking about community resources for both English, bilingual, and non-native speaking people. Children and adult books in Spanish and English are welcome!

Creative Therapeutics has a box for donations right in our waiting area.

If you have any questions please call us at (815)758-5508 and ask for Anna.
